Georgia Tech and renowned audio engineer Finis White, known as KY Engineerin', present The Sound of Atlanta Project. Described as “for Atlanta, by Atlanta,” it incorporates students in the exploration of different ambient sounds from various neighborhoods, and considers “What does the culture of a place sound like?”  The 2014 A3C Hip Hop Festival will present a screening of the project as part of its Atlanta line-up October 8-12.

The project began in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward, with Georgia Tech students recording the sounds of the neighborhood.  KY Engineerin’ will demo the work to date at the A3C Hip Hop Festival, which also hosts The Era of the Engineer, a panel discussion on the relationship between audio engineers and computer engineers on Friday, Oct. 10 from 3-4PM on the #PAEmainstage at the festival in Atlanta.

Initiated by the Office of the Arts at Georgia Tech, the "Sound of Atlanta" project will be a lasting legacy piece encompassing sound, visual art, technology and the soul of the Old Fourth Ward.  The "Sound of Atlanta" project will continue throughout the year with sound and visual art from other Atlanta neighborhoods. Students from other local schools, as well as local professional artists, will also participate in the project, which will culminate with a professionally produced sound and visual art installation in the spring of 2015. The final project will incorporate sound, technology, visual art and the soul of the communities it represents.
