Full Summary: Join Dr. Isa Afacan for a discussion of his experiences in the border city of Gaziantep, Turkey during the Syrian Civil War.

Join Dr. Isa Afacan for a discussion on the phenomenon of state collapse in the Middle East in the aftermath of the Arab Spring. As Syria descended into a civil war, and Iraq is experiencing serious chaos in governance and lost control of significant parts of its territory, sub-state and trans-state actors are filling the power vacuum and creating substantial problems for the region and the globe. Hence, Dr. Afacan will discuss resultant challenges of refugees, terrorism and instability in the region.

Dr. Afacan is an assistant professor of International Relations at Turgut Ozal University in Ankara, Turkey. He earned his PhD from Florida International University in Miami, FL.
