The Office of International Education is excited to announce the new George International Study Abroad Scholarship. This new initiative will provide an additional 40 to 50 scholarships for Georgia Tech undergraduates each year. Recipients will receive up to $5,000 to be applied toward a Georgia Tech study or intern abroad program. The scholarship was made possible by the generosity of William W. “Bill” George, IE 1964, Honorary Ph.D. 2008. George, professor of the practice at Harvard Business School and former CEO of Medtronic, did not study abroad himself but is making sure that Georgia Tech students have greater access to this opportunity. “It’s important that all Georgia Tech graduates become global citizens, and understand how business, commerce, engineering, and science work around the globe,” he said.
The George International Study Abroad Scholarship is unique in that it will now be possible for a student to apply for scholarship funding and then select a study abroad program. Students who once thought an international experience was out of reach will now be able to apply for scholarship funding before making a financial commitment to a study abroad program. Award recipients will meet with a study abroad advisor to select a program that meets their academic, professional, and personal interests. Students who have selected a study abroad program are also eligible and encouraged to apply. Interested students should submit an application online via the Office of International Education
website.
