On July 1, 2004, Dr. Bill Schafer became the Vice President for Student Affairs at Georgia Tech. As Vice President, Dr. Schafer reports to President Bud Peterson and is a member of the President’s Cabinet. His responsibilities include the Campus Recreation Center, Career Services, Counseling Center, Dean of Students Office ( Disability Services Program, Community Service Programs, Student Diversity Programs, Greek Affairs, UG & Graduate Student Government Association, Student Integrity, Student Involvement, Student Publications and Media, The Women’s Resource Center), Development for Student Affairs, Office of the Arts, Parents Programs, Leadership Education and Development Program, Research and Assessment for Student Affairs, and New Student & Sophomore Programs. In 2006, Dr. Schafer was selected to participate in Leadership Atlanta.
Dr. Schafer attended the University of Colorado, Boulder and received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering (1975), M.A. in Guidance & Counseling (1977), and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration (1986). Dr. Schafer’s dissertation topic was “The Influence of Differential Financial Aid Awards on the Enrollment of Financially Disadvantaged Students”. In June 1991, Dr. Schafer attended the Harvard University Management Development Program for Higher Education Administrators.
