Summaries

Summary Sentence: Information about the US medical insurance system and health and counseling services for International Students

Full Summary: No summary paragraph submitted.

This session will supplement the information provided at FASET and Graduate Student Orientation.  Since those sessions are not specifically targeted to the needs of international students, it is highly recommended that new international students not familiar with the U.S medical insurance system, health and counseling services, and safety issues in the U.S  attend.

An Officer from the GA Tech Police Department will discuss a number of  topics specifically targeted to international students.  Possible topics for discussion include:

  • The role of the GT Police Department and how it may differ from police in your home country
  • Your rights as an international student
  • What to do in an emergency
  • What to do if you are approached by a police officer (i.e. pulled over while driving)
  • Services offered by the GA Tech police department to keep you safe.

In addition, Jennifer White from Health Services will explain the medical services provided to GA Tech students and a representative from Blue Cross Blue Shield will explain the GA Tech medical insurance plan in which all international students are automatically enrolled and billed. Lastly, a representative from GA Tech Counseling Services will also discuss services offered to international students for adjusting to life in the United States.
