Summaries

Summary Sentence: Practice teaching using active learning strategies

Full Summary: Participate in this "flipped" teaching workshop about active learning by completing the asynchronous tutorial and then participating in a microteaching session.

Active learning is one of the most powerful teaching approaches you can use to maximize your students’ learning.  That’s why we’ve created a tutorial and workshop to help you familiarize yourself with the basics of active learning, to provide you with some guidance for preparing to teach a lesson that uses active learning, and to offer you an opportunity to practice teaching.  During the microteaching workshop on September 4, 2014, you will teach a 10 minute lesson that incorporates active learning to a small cohort of fellow participants and receive personalized feedback from a professional teaching consultant from CETL.

When you register, you will be provided access to a T-Square site (https://t-square.gatech.edu/portal/site/21072033-9d34-4f0d-8724-900ce0c0...) where you will find the Active Learning tutorial (https://t-square.gatech.edu/access/content/group/21072033-9d34-4f0d-8724...). In order to participate in the microteaching workshop, please complete the tutorial and submit your lesson plan prior to teaching your practice lesson.  Participants who submit their lesson plans before August 21, 2014 will receive early feedback from a CETL consultant.  Please understand that we will not allow individuals who have not completed this tutorial and submitted a lesson plan to participate in the microteaching workshop.

About the CETL Teaching Workshop Series:

The CETL Teaching Workshop Series is intended to introduce fundamental teaching principles and strategies to beginning instructors and is particularly well-suited for TAs, graduate students, and post-doctoral scholars who are new to teaching in college.  All are welcome!

To access the active leaning tutorial and additional workshop material, please go to the T-Square site:
