Full Summary:

Large events in town bring potential for crimes of opportunity — and GTPD wants to prevent those on Tech's campus from being victims.

With numerous events taking place throughout Atlanta this weekend, the Georgia Tech Police Department reminds students, faculty, and staff to maintain vigilance in protecting their personal safety.

South of Tech Square, part of Spring Street, between Third and Fourth Streets, will be closed for an event at the Quad at Spring and Fourth Complex through Sunday. Traffic will be diverted off Spring, which Thursday caused abnormal congestion and delays and may continue to do so throughout the weekend.

North of campus, the BB&T Atlanta Open will take place in Atlantic Station beginning Saturday and lasting through July 27.

Whether or not you attend, having large crowds near campus could present additional opportunities for criminals looking for a target.

“We have plans in place to keep campus secure throughout the weekend, but it takes everyone looking out for themselves and each other to be successful,” said Interim Chief of Police Robert Connolly.

As always, GTPD asks that if you see something, say something, and call them at 404-894-2500. To report incidents or suspicious activity off campus, call the Atlanta Police Department at 911.
