2014 Governor's CupGeorgia Tech was recognized for its giving nature again last week, earning the Governor’s Cup for the State Charitable Contributions Program for the 12th time and the 7th time in a row. The Governor’s Cup is awarded annually to the state institution with the highest contribution per employee.
“The real prize, however, is not the amount of individual contributions, but the difference we make in the community by joining together,” said Georgia Tech President G.P. “Bud” Peterson. “The Governor’s Cup trophy is symbolic of the special spirit of the people of Georgia Tech who are involved in numerous charitable and civic activities in their communities and have a commitment to give back.”
Georgia Tech employees gave $327,316 during the 2014 campaign. The Governor’s Cup trophy will live in the Office of the President in the Carnegie Building for most of the year. It returns to the state shortly before the State Charitable Contributions Program awards ceremony each year, when it receives a new plaque to commemorate that year’s winner. The winner is not known until the ceremony, which took place this year on June 18.
“Our special thanks go to Leslie Sharp and LaJauna Ellis for their leadership this year, as well as to the more than 130 ambassadors committed to the charitable campaign each year," Peterson said.
Activities and fundraising for the 2015 campaign will begin in the fall on Sept. 1.
