The Georgia Tech Police Department made two arrests Tuesday related to an incident that took place near the Howey Physics Building on June 7.

Carlos Del Rio and Jarell Adams, both 18, were arrested and charged with strong armed robbery and criminal attempt to commit strong armed robbery. They have been transported to Fulton County Jail.

On Saturday, June 7, a student reported he was walking in the courtyard between the Howey Physics and Mason Civil Engineering buildings when two males grabbed him from behind and forced him to the ground. They stole the student’s wallet and watch and fled the area. A Clery Act Safety Alert was sent following the report.

After the Clery Alert was sent, another student reported an incident from around the same time, when two males attempted to steal his bag while he walked near the Ford Environmental Science and Technology Building.

Video surveillance footage, interviews, and investigate work in collaboration with Atlanta Police Department resource officers enabled GTPD to quickly identify the two suspects. After obtaining two felony warrants, both individuals were apprehended and arrested.

“We believe good police work will prevent individuals like these from coming on our campus to prey on our students,” said Interim Chief Rob Connolly.
