For some students, the transition from first to second year can be just as challenging as stepping foot onto campus as a freshman. During their second year, we know that many students experience an increased desire to get involved and grow their leadership, feel the pressures of preparing for the co-op/internship/job search process, and even seek to simply create more connections with their peers. New Student & Sophomore Programs offers a variety of programs and services to help specifically with this transition. Sophomore Programs focuses on providing guidance for ongoing success, offering opportunities for student leadership and involvement, and keeping students informed about campus activities.
One new opportunity available to sophomores is to participate in the Sophomore Programming and Resources Committee. This student committee focuses on:
Plus, the committee will provide an excellent opportunity for sophomores to create connections with their fellow second-year students. Applications for this group will be available on August 1 and are due August 29. Information will be distributed to students in late July.
Sophomore Programs can also help second-year students who are beginning to consider their co-op/internship/career options. Starting in late August, the Sophomore Career Experience provides a six-week workshop series for second-year students to help prepare them for a fulfilling career after Tech. The program is coordinated in conjunction with the Center for Career Development and Discover and the Georgia Tech Alumni Association and focuses on topics ranging from networking to navigating the Career Fair. Further information can be found on our website (www.sophomores.gatech.edu). Applications will be available on August 1.
Finally, Sophomore Programs is offering students who want to develop their leadership skills an opportunity to participate in the Sophomore Leadership Forum on January 24, 2015. This is a great program that brings together our sophomore students to learn more about themselves and their leadership, their spheres of influence on campus, and how they can work together to tackle issues facing second-year students at Georgia Tech and the broader Tech community. More information about this event will be available to students in the fall semester.
We are excited to begin a new year with exciting new programs for second-year students. Please visit our website (www.sophomores.gatech.edu) for more information about our programs including the application process.
