School of Building Construction Assistant Professor Pardis Pishdad-Bozorgi recently was awarded the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) National Teaching Excellence Award. This award, made annually to one tenure-track faculty member of a four-year ASC member school, recognizes her contribution to construction education, excellence in teaching, and dedication to the construction profession.

“This award is quite an honor for Pardis, and for the School,” said Daniel Castro, chair of the School of Building Construction. “She is a dedicated instructor who gives students a thorough understanding of the construction profession. There is no one more deserving of this recognition.”

Pishdad-Bozorgi was selected following a local, regional and national selection process. The final selection is made from nominations submitted by all eight ASC regions, and a committee selects the final recipient. In addition to the national award, she was the winner of the region award in November, 2013.

Assistant Professor Pishdad-Bozorgi joined the School of Building Construction in 2012. She teaches Building Information Modeling (BIM) courses, Senior Capstone Studio, and is the faculty advisor for the Student Construction Association. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning and a master’s degree in civil engineering, both from Virginia Tech; as well as a master’s in project management and real estate from Harvard University.

The ASC is a leading organization in construction education. It is dedicated to the professional growth and success of its membership, and is committed to fostering excellence in construction communication, scholarship, research, education, and practice. It is organized into seven regions in the United States (Northeast, Southeast, Great Lakes, North Central, South Central, Rocky Mountain, and Far West) and two international regions, one for international institutions (Canada; Europe; Asia and the Pacific; and Caribbean/Central/South America) and one for industry professionals.
