ISyE Welcomes New Advisory Board Members and Chair

Randell “Randy” Cain Jr., IE 1991, Marie Klaer, IE 1979, Samuel Lee, IE 1990, and Mark Moon, IE 1985, recently joined the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering Advisory Board. Existing board member, Guy Primus, IE 1992, will now serve as the board’s chair. The Board, comprised of distinguished professionals and community leaders, serves as a sounding board for the School Chair in an advisory capacity as well as assists with the School's development goals. Each member brings extensive industry knowledge and unique expertise to this role and will serve a four year term (2014-2018).

Randell “Randy” A. Cain, Jr., IE 1991, is a portfolio manager and principal owner at Herndon Capital Management. Cain is responsible for managing in excess of $9 billion in equity securities for a variety of institutional and individual portfolio clients via direct accounts, commingled funds, and mutual funds. He and his wife Cynthia have five children. Cain has served as a youth coach in soccer and basketball for his children’s teams for several year and is involved with community organizations such as serving on finance committee for the board of the Hornets’ Nest Girls Scouts Council in the Charlotte, NC area. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Marie Klaer, IE 1979, retired in 2008 after a career with AT&T and BellSouth, where she served as a revenue analyst.  She was instrumental in leading the merging of BellSouth Revenue data with the AT&T analysis systems. Klaer received her Georgia Tech degree with honors.  She is a supporter of social services for the needy.  In 2011, she was named the Robert D. Fowler Family YMCA 2011 Volunteer of the Year.   Outside of her commitment to the YMCA, Klaer also volunteers at Rainbow Village and Special Pops Tennis, a program that enhances the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities.    

Samuel S. Lee, IE 1990, is the chairman and chief executive officer of Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc., since 2008.  Prospect is a privately held national healthcare company headquartered in West Los Angeles that provides medical services through coordinated regional care with its hospitals, clinics, and affiliated medical groups of 3,500 physicians.  Prospect had been a publicly-traded company prior to a go-private transaction led by management and the private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners in 2010.  Prior to Prospect, he was a co-founder and CEO of Alta Hospitals, Inc., which merged with Prospect in 2007.  Lee serves on the Boards of the Nix Health Foundation; Hospital Association of Southern California; California Association of Physician Groups National Board, serves as a regional representative and interviewer for Harvard College, and is active with the Young Presidents Organization.  He received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Mark Moon, IE 1985, is the executive vice president and president of sales & product operations for Motorola Solutions. He is responsible for overseeing all activities related to global sales/go-to-market, services, product development, supply chain and strategy.  Moon’s organization includes over 18,000 employees located in more than 65 countries. Moon joined Motorola in 1985 and has held many leadership roles in sales, product development, services and general management. He serves on the board of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which was created by the U.S. Congress to lead a nationwide effort to honor America's firefighters and provide support and assistance to their families.

Guy Primus, IE 1992, MS IE 1995, will follow Lou Fouts, IE 1990, as the new advisory board chair.  He is the co-founder of The Core Venture Studio, a company that provides startup entrepreneurs with in-house product strategy, technical and business expertise, and capital infrastructure needed to grow their businesses. Prior to this, Primus served as Chief Operating Officer at Overbrook Entertainment, the film, TV and transmedia production company founded by producer James Lassiter and actor/producer Will Smith. Primus’ success in the worlds of media and technology led to his selection as a ‘CUP Catalyst’ in Media & Entertainment by the Council of Urban Professionals, a ‘Captain of Industry’ the Institute of Industrial Engineers and being named to Georgia Tech’s Council of Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni. Primus received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
