OSA Seminar - Manipulating the Color and Shape of Single Photons

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Summaries

Summary Sentence: OSA Student Chapter: Seminar with Dr. Kartik Srinivasan

Full Summary: OSA Student Chapter: Seminar with Dr. Kartik Srinivasan from the National Institute of Standards and Technology

Control of the wavelength and temporal profile of quantum states of light is an important resource in the development of photonic quantum information technology, where it can be used to interface disparate physical systems, overcome fabrication-induced inhomogeneity, and allow for more optimal detection. This talk will describe proof-of-principle experiments which demonstrate telecom-to-visible conversion, production of identical photons from initially spectrally distinct sources, and modification of the temporal shape of the photon wavepackets using a quantum dot single photon source in conjunction with three-wave-mixing in a nonlinear crystal. It will also discuss recent efforts to develop quantum frequency converters in a scalable, chip-based platform, using both material and engineered nonlinearities based on radiation pressure coupling between photons and phonons.
