On Tuesday at approximately 2:30 a.m., the “T” was removed from Tech Tower by a Georgia Tech student.
The student responsible was apprehended by the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) Tuesday afternoon, and GTPD recovered the “T.” GTPD initially charged the student with theft and vandalism, and the incident has been referred to the Office of Student Integrity.
“Our principal concern is always safety, and we are thankful that the student involved was not seriously injured, or worse,” said President G.P. “Bud” Peterson. “As Georgia Tech’s president, I feel a personal responsibility for the safety and security of the Georgia Tech community. We have many wonderful traditions at Georgia Tech, but participating in the ‘Stealing of the T’ — at the risk of life and limb and one’s academic career — should not be one of them.”
