Summaries

Summary Sentence: Developing our Students as Professionals: Bridging the Gap between the Classroom and Practice

Full Summary: Join this brown-bag-luncheon series on the first Wednesday of each month from noon to 1:00 and find out what faculty are doing to engage Georgia Tech students in learning.

Across disciplines at Georgia Tech, a common goal we have for our students is to prepare them to succeed as professionals after graduation.  Not only do we hope to graduate highly qualified candidates for the job market, but we know that students tend to be more invested in learning when they expect to use what they learned.  As Ambrose et. al. (2010) argue, students are more motivated to learn when course material “interests them or has relevance for important aspects of their lives.”

Join us for this brown bag luncheon to discuss ideas for bridging the gap between the classroom and practice as we seek to develop our students as professionals and engage them more in our classes.

Faculty Speakers:

Mary Peek, School of Chemistry and Biochemistry

“You’re Hired!” – Using a Mock Job Interview to Review Course Concepts
