The Center for International Strategy, Technology, and Policy (CISTP) within the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs is hosting a panel discussion with Lieutenant Colonel Justin Y. Reese, U.S. Army, and Major Joel Pauls, U.S. Air Force. The speakers will address bridging complex strategic and technical concepts with long-term operational needs and objectives for the US military. 

About the speakers:

Lieutenant Colonel Justin Reese is an Infantry officer who is currently serving as a Special Assistant to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. Prior to this position, he served as a Fellow on the Chief of Staff of the Army's Strategic Studies Group. His past assignments include postings to the 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd Infantry Division, and 101st Airborne Division. LTC Reese has also served as an aide-de-camp, and as a Ranger Instructor at the 6th Ranger Training Battalion. His combat and operational service includes Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Joint Guardian. LTC Reese holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Michigan State University, a Master of Science in Terrorist Operations and Financing from the Naval Postgraduate School, a Master of Military Arts and Science from the US Army Command and General Staff College, and a Master of Science in Law Enforcement Intelligence and Analysis from Michigan State University.

Major Joel “JP” Pauls is a Fighter pilot, currently serving as a Strategist on the Headquarters Air Force Staff. Prior to this assignment he served as a Fellow on the Chief of Staff of the Army’s Strategic Studies Group. He is an F-15E Strike Eagle pilot with 2700 hours of flight time including 350 combat hours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Maj Pauls graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is also a graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff College, and has graduate degrees from the Air Force’s Air Command and Staff College, and the Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies.

This event is organized as part of the Georgia Tech Initiative on Strategy, Technology, and the US Military.
