The Office of Graduate Education & Faculty Affairs will be hosting a meeting for Academic Professionals at Georgia Tech. The meeting will have three purposes: 1) outline how the proposed changes to Faculty Definitions and Faculty Governance will affect those employees who are Academic Professionals (including Academic Professional Associates and Senior Academic Professionals); 2) discuss some proposed promotion policies for Academic Professionals; and 3) provide an opportunity for Academic Professionals to network.
The Subcommittee on Faculty Definition was charged by the Georgia Tech Executive Board to “develop and refine a plan for revised definition of faculty categories for Georgia Tech” based on a Provost’s Task Force study. General Faculty status is proposed to be removed and each job title designated as either Academic Faculty, Research Faculty, or Staff. The purpose of the information meeting is to provide an opportunity to explain and discuss the subcommittee recommendations for faculty and staff designations and the corresponding changes needed in the arrangements for faculty governance. The Academic Professional job title is proposed to be classified as Academic Faculty.
