In mid-December, William J. Stanley III, Arch '72, was officially inaugurated as the 52nd chancellor of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, following his election to the post a month earlier. Stanley is the founder and principal for design of the firm Stanley, Love-Stanley, which oversaw construction of the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center and O’Keefe Gymnasium among other projects on the Tech campus. He has long been active in the AIA, the Atlanta design community, and at Georgia Tech, founding the Office of Minority Education Development and the Georgia Tech Black Alumni Organization, and serving on the Alumni Association Board of Trustees and the Georgia Tech Advisory Board.

"Congratulations to Bill for this highest of achivements," said Steve French, dean of the College of Architecture. "All of us at the College are proud that one of our alumni has been recognized for his years of leadership in Atlanta and the AIA. He is a role model not only for our students but for all professionals working in industry."

Said Stanley, “Being elected by my peers to the highest office of the most elite group in my profession is perhaps the greatest professional recognition that one can obtain. It is a culmination of a life of service to the profession.”
