Abstract:
Music Information Retrieval deals with retrieving information from music such as tempo, harmony, and pitch. This talk will give an introduction to MIR describing the research field. It will outline typical approaches and give examples for applications.
Speaker Bio:
Alexander Lerch works on the design of new digital signal processing
algorithms that extract information from music. Lerch received his Diplom-Ingenieur in telecommunications and his Ph.D. in music performance analysis from the Technical University of Berlin. He is co-founder of the company "zplane" - a research-driven technology provider for the music industry. He is currently an assistant professor in the School of Music at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Signal Processing and Music Informatics has been published in 2012 by IEEE/Wiley press.
