This event aims to bring together economists and experts about Brazil to give an overview and inputs on the country's economic forecast.

We will discuss Brazil’s economic outlook as it prepares to host one of the most significant events in the world of sport, the World Cup. Our panelists will discuss both the near-term outlook and Brazil's longer-term economic challenges and opportunities.

Dr. Fernando de Holanda Filho, from the Brazilian Institute of Economy from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (IBRE/FGV) will present the forecast from the Institute's macroeconomic model for 2014 and its indicators, Professor Kirk Bowman of Georgia Tech University, will discuss the preparations for the World Cup and the political and economic significance of soccer and tourism in Brazil. Ambassador Hermano Telles Ribeiro, Consul General of Brazil in Atlanta, will provide his perspective and present Brazil's diplomatic position in the world, and its strategies for the World Cup and beyond.

The discussion will be moderated by Stephen Kay, Senior Economist and the Director of the Atlanta Fed's Americas Center.
