If you are interested in learning more about Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GATAPP) programs and want to teach in Metro Atlanta, the Metro RESA GA TAPP is now holding informational meetings for the 2014-2015 school year!

The sessions are December 10 and January 9.  Click on each date for registration information.   There is no to attend the information sessions.

The application window for the 2014-2015 school year is February 1-28, 2014. Applicants do not have to be currently employed to apply during this application window.  

There are three steps to complete before being eligible to begin the Metro TAPP program.  Click here for the steps. Upon completion  of these steps, you must obtain a teaching job to begin the TAPP program for alternate certification.

 

 You are a stronger candidate for teaching jobs open to those who need to pursue alternate certification once you have completed the eligibility steps.  You can only teach in member systems to participate in the Metro TAPP program.  They are: Atlanta Public Schools, Buford City Schools, Clayton County Schools, Cobb County Schools, City Schools of Decatur, DeKalb County Schools, Douglas County Schools, Forsyth County Schools, Fulton County Schools, Gwinnett County, Marietta City Schools, and Rockdale County Schools.  See the bottom of this newsletter for each system’s website.

There are other RESAs in Georgia that service other systems.

Areas of greatest need in the Metropolitan Atlanta area:

  • Special education (no specific Bachelor’s degree required)
  • Mathematics– middle & high school (secondary = grades 6 -12)
  • Science– middle & high school (secondary = grades 6 -12 )
  • Foreign Language (Spanish especially)

Requirements to be placed on the Metro RESA eligibility list:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum 2.5 GPA) or a master’s or higher degree
  • Degree must be in a subject similar to the desired teaching subject
  • Passing score or verification of exemption of the GACE Program Admission
  • Passing score on the specific GACE content area
  • Complete an application during the February 1 – 28 application period
  • Upon meeting paper screening requirements, attendance at a mandatory orientation session
  • Completion of Essentials of Teaching course (or verification or exemption) during summer

Requirement to begin the TAPP program officially:

  • secure a teaching job in a Metro RESA member system
