There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Technology Square opened on October 23, 2003, exactly ten years ago today. Catherine Ross, director of Georgia Tech’s Center for Quality Growth and Development (which is located in Tech Square), said that she remembered what former Georgia Tech President Wayne Clough said when Georgia Tech won a national Urban Land Institute award in New York City for the development: “Universities have grown to be such large institutions that they have a moral and practical obligation to improve their communities.” However, the development of Tech Square and the recent scalping of the nearby Crum & Forster building has led to tension between Georgia Tech and neighboring communities. “It’s my hope, and I believe Georgia Tech has very good intentions,” Ross said. “It doesn’t mean we are always on the right side.”
