Bruce Stiftel, chair of the School of City and Regional Planning, was recently appointed to a United Nations (UN) ad-hoc expert group set up to advise UN Habitat on the content of new international guidelines for urban and territorial planning that will be adopted by UN member states in 2016.
"I'm thrilled at Bruce's appointment to this panel," said Steven French, dean of the College of Architecture. "To be a part of a UN group that is going to impact policy the world over is impressive, and speaks volumes to Bruce's expertise and professionalism in the field. I'm certain that he will represent Georgia Tech well on the worldwide stage."
The expert group consists of planners from over XX countries, and includes some of the top XX in the world. Their charge will be to advise UN Habitat, which is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
