Almost 200 business and civic leaders met 10 October at the Neighborhood Investment Conference to discuss the role of Wall Street investors and the emerging homes-for-lease industry in Atlanta. Bruce Gunter, a lecturer in Georgia Tech's School of City and Regional Planning, noted that wealthy, non-local investors have far different agendas than Atlanta residents. Georgia Tech Professor Dan Immergluck's research on housing and foreclosure corroborates Gunter’s remark, with some Atlantan homeowners fearing that investors who buy in bulk could choose to dump their low-value properties.
