Full Summary:

To celebrate Open Access Week at Georgia Tech, the Library will host a series of events to explore opinions, experiences, and implications of open access--from all sides of the issue.

Open Access Week is an opportunity many universities worldwide take to share strategies, ideas, and success stories about making valuable research available to the world without barriers or restrictions. It is a time for exploring how a philosophy of openness improves the reach and impact of research.

Georgia Tech faculty showed commitment to that vision by passing the Institute's Open Access Policy, which went into effect at the beginning of 2013. The Open Access Policy enables authors to retain some rights to their scholarly articles so that a version (such as an author's version or a pre-print) of their work can be archived in an open access repository, such as Georgia Tech's own institutional repository, SMARTech, in addition to being published in refereed journals and conferences.

To celebrate Open Access Week at Georgia Tech, the Library will host a series of events to explore opinions, experiences, and implications of open access--from all sides of the issue. Increasingly, federal funding agencies are requiring open sharing of research articles and data, making awareness about open access more important than ever.
