There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

We’ve all been witness to ridiculous technological advances and especially ones in computing, but to date these have had little impact in the classroom. Pervasive challenges around Internet access and the availability of devices remain, though we are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. But how exactly will technology change what happens with students and in the classroom? Or even the definition of a “classroom”?
In this talk, I’ll touch on my journey from physics undergraduate at Tech, to heading up Google’s efforts in web-based storage and collaborative applications. We’ll talk about the technology behind real-time collaboration in these applications, and how that supports web, mobile and offline. And I’ll finish by describing the early results we’ve seen in K-12 schools and the effects on education dynamics and outcomes.
