Georgia Tech is not a small university on a single patch of ground. Thousands of people from around the globe make up our community and rely on Tech’s virtual infrastructure every day. Whether you need to connect to the GT network from home or from China, Georgia Tech’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows anyone with an internet connection and a current Georgia Tech account to access Tech’s online services as if they were physically standing in the middle of campus.

The VPN operates by creating an encrypted tunnel between Tech’s campus and our end users, wherever they may be. This tunnel allows traffic to bypass the more public and potentially harmful areas of the Internet, connecting directly to Tech and avoiding hacking dangers along the way by remaining encrypted.

To take advantage of the VPN, navigate to anyc.vpn.gatech.edu with your web browser and enter your account information. A brief installation process for the VPN client, AnyConnect, will begin. Once the client is installed, you will be able to activate or deactivate the VPN at any point. Be sure to connect at least once via VPN before leaving campus, if possible, because troubleshooting is much harder when you are far away.

Things to remember about using VPN:

  • an internet connection must already be established in order to use the VPN, and

  • the VPN does not improve a bad or slow connection.
