The Institute for People and Technology is excited to announce our upcoming Midtown Buzz Developers Workshop. Offered for free to the developer community, the workshop will present a high-level view of the Midtown Alliance / Georgia Tech partnership to develop a Midtown Mobile Innovation District, while focusing on community involvement. The workshop will provide insights and education on available tools, such as API's and available data sets, for building mobile applications for the Midtown Community. We also want to hear your voice and brainstorm with you on what we collectively would like to see developed for Midtown –What do you think is missing from the Midtown experience? Please be ready to pitch your ideas.

If you really want to get your hands dirty, you can stay for our hackathon after the workshop where you can a apply these tools and technologies to make your idea a reality.

Workshop topics will include:

Midtown Buzz: Learn about the partnership between Midtown Alliance and Georgia Tech and our activities to strengthen and grow the Midtown innovation district. A significant portion of our effort is focused on creating a mobile innovation ecosystem for developing applications and services for the Midtown community. This effort includes community involvement through hackathons, mobile application competitions, shared data, trials, and needs assessments.

Georgia Tech App Lab: A “hackerspace” devoted to the creation of mobile applications and technologies across a range of platforms. It is equipped with the software and hardware necessary for mobile app development.

Wearable Computing: The release of Google Glass brought the wearable computing concept to the forefront. Demystify the technology and learn what's possible on this new platform.

Argon: Argon is the world’s first standards-based Augmented Reality (AR) web browser. The goal of Argon is to bring AR to the masses through a web-centric platform model – just like your favorite web browser. Argon gives you the flexibility to design & deliver your content, your way. By leveraging the power of the latest in web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and KML, Argon allows users to experience your augmentations the way you intended them to be experienced!  With complete control over how your content is displayed, and the ability to leverage your existing web content, tools, and programming experiences, Argon is the revolutionary Augmented Reality platform that is changing how users experience the web.

GTmob: GTmob is a crowd-sourced HTML5 based open mobile portal where members of the campus community can contribute just about everything; from links to stories, information about events, locations on the campus, and the applications themselves. The project aims to make GT services and GT affiliated websites accessible to a wide array of mobile platforms and to active developers in the GT community.

GT Journey: GT Journey is a virtual innovation, information and
collaboration ecosystem and focal point for students, faculty, and staff to develop ideas and solutions, find technical support and resources, advertise and access campus data, and share applications and experiences.

Developers Tool Box - Midtown-Centric Data Resources: The Midtown Atlanta community has a rich and growing set of resources available for innovators. This includes datasets and live data feeds for all aspects of the community. We are collecting and curating data sets and data sources, that include information on events and news, transportation, wayfinding, sustainability, community engagement among others.

During the workshop we will also showcase and discuss mobile applications already under development that address some of the needs of the Midtown Community:
