The Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute (GTMI) welcomes the Advanced Technology Development Center's Connie Casteel on Monday, Oct. 28, for GTMI’s weekly Brown Bag Seminar Series. The seminar, "SBIR/STTR: How Does It Relate to Manufacturers?" will begin at noon in Room 114 of the Callaway Manufacturing Research Building.
Connie Casteel manages the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program for Georgia Tech’s technology incubator, the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) and is the liaison to Georgia’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (GaMEP). In her roles, she provides information, consulting, guidance and strategic direction for start-up companies aiming to utilize the federal SBIR/STTR research funds to advance their technology, as well as connecting these companies to manufacturers and GaMEP resources as their companies grow. Prior to her current position, she served as a Growth Services Project Manager for GaMEP, helping Georgia manufacturers grow their businesses through technology scouting, strategic business development projects, and connecting them with Georgia Tech research solutions. In 2005, Ms. Casteel helped launch Georgia's SBIR Assistance Program, a business assistance program located at Georgia Tech, which helped Georgia's start-up and small high-tech companies obtain federal research and development funding. She began her Georgia Tech career evaluating technologies and managing the marketing efforts of NASA's Southeast Regional Technology Transfer Center (SERTTC), which licensed and transferred NASA-developed technologies to the private sector. Prior to Georgia Tech, she worked for TMP (Executive Search Division) and Solvay Pharmaceuticals doing business development and competitive intelligence research. Throughout her career, Ms. Casteel’s roles have included program management, consulting, marketing, database administration, business and competitive intelligence, business development, training, technology assessment, and partnership development. A native of Virginia, Ms. Casteel received her BA from the University of Mary Washington and her MLIS from the University of South Carolina.
