The city of Louisville, Kentucky plans to hire Brian Stone Jr., an Associate Professor of City and Regional Planning at the Georgia Institute of Technology to conduct an assessment of the city's severe urban heat island problem. The $135,000 study, funded through grants and private local matching money, will look at strategies to cool the city and the human health benefits associated with those strategies. Stone called the study, "The first of its kind for a major U.S. city."
