Bringing Assignments to Life

Brown-bag Luncheon Discussion

The Human Factor

in Engineering and Industrial Design Assignments

Young Mi Choi

School of Industrial Design

We know from the scholarship of teaching and learning that enduring learning is more likely when students consider the human element of their work (see for example, L. Dee Fink 2003).  Young Mi Choi will discuss how she draws upon her expertise in Human Factors and Ergonomics to design assignments that deeply engage students in considering how both the industrial design and the engineering approach to a problem work together to effect people's everday lives.

From Reading to Discovery:

Reading Assignments that Engage

Esther Skelley Jordan

CETL/Sam Nunn School of International Affairs

So often we assign reading to students and then become frustrated when they don’t seem to read as much or as deeply as we would like.  Esther Jordan will share the evolutionary path of reading assignments in her international affairs and CETL classes - from just assigning reading to leading students to engaged discovery through reading.
