If you enjoy eavesdropping on faculty conversations, come to the Clough Lounge on August 28 at 5 p.m. to hear a live recording of Georgia Tech's newest podcast "Consilience with Pete and Charlie." It's a fresh and funny take on the hopes, fears, and disgust that comedian and engineering professor Dr. Pete Ludovice and librarian Charlie Bennett have for teaching and learning in higher education. This Thursday's show tackles student/faculty interaction at Georgia Tech.
"Now that I have been directing the Center for Academic Enrichment I see that many of the students are simply terrified of the faculty," said Dr. Pete Ludovice, Director of the Center for Academic Enrichment and Associate Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering.
"Many of our programs such as the GT1000 Freshman Seminar Course, and our Think Big Living Learning Communities are specifically designed to address this issue. However, we struggle to overcome this fear as soon as possible in the student’s academic career so they can draw as much out of their instructor as possible. Our upcoming podcast will explore this topic in a very open and honest fashion (with a bit of humor) as we typically do with the podcast."
For each episode, they pick a starting topic and talk for an hour, no matter where the conversation leads. Whether it's making fun of Taco Bell or discussing quantum mechanics, their quick, comedic discourse dissects perfect moments of consilience at the intersection of science and the humanities.
New episodes of "Consilience with Pete and Charlie" are available every week on http://peteandcharlie.tumblr.com/. For more information, contact Charlie Bennett at charlie.bennett@library.gatech.edu or Dr. Pete Ludovice at pete@drpetecomedy.com.
