Stephanie Jackson, an Academic Program Manager from The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, has received a 2013 International Education Administrators Fulbright Award to enable her to meet with international education representatives for a series of seminars, meetings and lectures at eleven United Kingdom universities on one of the most prestigious and selective scholarship programmes operating world-wide. Created by treaty in 1948, the US-UK Fulbright Commission is the only bi-lateral, transatlantic scholarship programme, offering awards for study or research in any field, at any accredited US or UK university. The Commission is part of the Fulbright programme conceived by Senator J. William Fulbright in the aftermath of World War II to promote leadership, learning and empathy between nations through educational exchange. Award recipients will be the future leaders for tomorrow and support the “special relationship” between the US and UK.
Stephanie Jackson, from Los Angeles, is the Assistant Director, Undergraduate Advising and Professional Development for the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology. In this role she manages student support services for undergraduates, and career development for all graduate students in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and leads career initiatives for the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. She is a Past President of the Georgia Tech Academic Advising Network (GTAAN) and has been recognized by the College and the Institute, as well by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) at the State level for her exemplary performance and leadership in academic and career advising. She has a Master’s of International Affairs degree in International Development from Ohio University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Howard University. She is an active liaison with the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs and a member of the Georgia Association of International Educators. She hopes to take away insights and tools on integrating science, technology and the liberal arts in internationalization efforts for more mobility and opportunity for US and UK students and alumni.
Commenting on receiving the Award, Jackson said: "A significant component of the strategic plan is the globalization of our education with emphasis on cultural competency. This Fulbright award allows me to enhance, influence and inform these strategic plan implementation steps as the Nunn School and Georgia Tech collaborate to promote global leadership. I am greatly enthusiastic about the knowledge and connections to be gained, and stand ready to work towards a framework that provides improved cultural support for our growing UK student populations and more mobility and opportunity for both U.S. and UK students to pursue endeavors in these nations."
