Professor Roberts will talk about his new book, Rising Tide: Bear Bryant, Joe Namath, and Dixie's Last Quarter (Published by Twelve Books).
Rising Tide is a gripping account of how two very different men-Bear Bryant a legendary coach in the South who was facing a pair of ethics scandals that threatened his career, and Joe Namath a cocky Northerner from a steel mill town in Pennsylvania-led the Crimson Tide to a national championship against the backdrop of the Civil Rights movement.
Randy Roberts is an award-winning biographer and Distinguished Professor of History at Purdue University. Many of his books have examined sports and popular culture in America. Four of his books have been nominated for Pulitzer Prize. He has also served frequently as a consultant and on-camera commentator for PBS, HBO, and the History channel.
Book signing to follow.
