Georgia Lawmakers Eyeing Income Tax Cuts

There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. Christine Riesprofessor in the School of Public Policy, explains that "when you lower income tax rates, you lower rates on production, earned income and investing,”  as she was testifying to a state Senate study committee July 17. “If you want more of something, don’t tax it.”  

The panel, which included Ries, proposed a revenue-neutral plan to roll back Georgia’s 6 percent personal income tax and offset the lost revenue by increasing the sales tax, which currently is at 4 percent.  Source:  The Atlanta Business Chronicle, July 26, 2013.
