Atlanta offers many options for things to do off campus, particularly during the spring and summer festival seasons.

Atlanta is known for having a robust festival season, and it won’t be stopped by a little heat or humidity.

Arm yourself with sunscreen and enjoy some of the annual and ongoing local events that make Tech’s urban setting one of its greatest assets.

  • National Doughnut Day: Though Krispy Kreme has claimed the URL, you can choose to commemorate the round treat on June 7 at one of their participating stores, at the on-campus Dunkin’ Donuts or at nearby Sublime
  • Peachtree Hills Festival of the Arts: Enjoy free art in the outdoors this weekend (with a special appearance from food trucks) in Buckhead’s Peachtree Hills neighborhood.
  • Piedmont Green Market: In the absence of campus farmers markets during the summer, you can get your fresh foods at nearby Piedmont Park on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • National Knit in Public Day: We have a day for everything in America, and you can celebrate this Saturday by knitting or yarn bombing with the Museum of Design Atlanta in Midtown. Free admission to MODA if you bring knit or crochet supplies.
  • Sidewalk Saturdays in Decatur: Downtown Decatur and Oakhurst Village will have art, music and other performances on from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays through June.
  • Unplugged in the Park: Park Tavern hosts free weekly concerts on Sundays at 7 p.m. Admission is free but limited to the 21+ demographic.
  • Tunes at the Tombs: Enjoy live music amid the monuments and spirits of Oakland Cemetery this Saturday from 1 to 8 p.m. Admission includes a free, guided mini-tour. ($10 in advance, $15 at gate).
  • Indie Craft Experience: This show brings Etsy to life with local and regional artists and artisans showcasing their craft. This Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  in Castleberry Hill. Admission is $5.
