College of Architecture postdoctoral fellow awarded 2013 New Investigator Research Award
YS ChoiYoung-Seon Choi, a postdoctoral fellow in the College of Architecture, has been awarded the 2013 New Investigator Research Award by the Center for Health Design’s Research Coalition. Young-Seon Choi is a researcher, lecturer, and design educator in the College, working on a research project that expands the findings from a preliminary fall risk study done at Dublin Methodist Hospital into acute care and other settings.
The award allows Choi to serve as a designated member of CHD’s Research Coalition for one year, along with complimentary registration to the Healthcare Design Conference, where she will have the opportunity to present her completed research study.
“This award is designed to encourage new researchers to turn their attention to evaluating how the built environment impacts healthcare outcomes,” stated Eileen Malone, co-chair of CHD’s Research Coalition. “All applications undergo a rigorous peer-review process, conducted by CHD’s Research Coalition. It was our pleasure to select Young-Seon as the recipient of this year’s award.”
Young-Seon received her PhD and Master’s degree from Georgia Tech. Her highly interdisciplinary research focuses on human behavior and responses to architecture and its design and space. She has taught common first year architectural design studios as well as co-taught a graduate level course entitled “Evidence-Based Design.”
The Center for Health Design (CHD) is a nonprofit organization that engages and supports professionals and organizations in the healthcare, construction, and design industry to improve the quality of healthcare facilities and create new environments for healthy aging.
