Beginning with the summer term 2013, the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) will require a completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) in order to receive any state financial aid which includes HOPE, Zell Miller, and Hero Scholarships. Students applying for state financial aid will be required to complete and submit a FAFSA to determine eligibility for student aid, regardless of whether the student is applying for any federal assistance.
Either the 2012-13 or 2013-14 FAFSA may be used to satisfy this requirement for summer term 2013.
The 2013-14 FAFSA will be required for fall term 2013 and will be applicable through summer term 2014.
Moving forward, a current year FAFSA will be required for each year that you seek state financial aid. A FAFSA can be submitted now at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please note, the HOPE/Zell Miller application formerly required will no longer serve as an acceptable financial aid application.
Students may contact the Georgia Tech Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid for assistance with the application process. Click here for a listing of financial aid advisors.
If you have questions about the new requirement, please contact the Georgia Student Finance Commission at (770) 724-9000 or (800) 505-GSFC (4732) or by email at clientservices@gsfc.org.
