On 28 February 2013, Prof. Phil Auslander, in his guise as art historian, will give a talk titled "Surrogate Performances: Performance Documentation and the New York Avant-Garde, ca. 1964–1974" at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst [Migros Museum of Contemporary Art] in Zurich, Switzerland. He will then move on to Finland, where first he will keynote Performing with Sound: An International Symposium at Theatre Academy Helsinki (TEAK) on March 4. His talk will be “Sound and Vision: The Audio/Visual Economy of Music Performance.” View details here.
On March 5, he will give an invited lecture for the program in Musicology at the University of Turku, Finland on the relationship of rock music to the concept of taste. On March 6, he will once again be at TEAK in Helsinki leading a seminar, “Toward a Hermeneutics of Performance Documentation,” based around his own writing on the subject.
