Helena Mitchell, executive director at the Center for Advanced Communications Policy in the School of Public Policy, has been appointed to the National Academies Committee on Geotargeted Disaster Alerts and Warnings.
The committee is a part of the National Research Council's Computer Science and Telecommunications Board. Mitchell will spend the next year assisting the committee in organizing a workshop to examine current knowledge and research on geotargeted disaster alerts and warnings to improve the effectiveness of alerts and warnings with greater geographical precision. A summary of the workshop will be published by the National Academies Press.
