DATHA LogoThe Design and Technologies for Healthy Aging would like to invite you to our second meeting of Spring 2013. Leanne West, Senior Research Scientist in the Georgia Tech Research Institute, will discuss the state of Assistive Technology device development and investigation of technology usability issues for people with sensory impairments. This includes understanding of key components such as wireless technologies and headmounted displays, remote sensing, early detection of health issues, etc.
The meeting will be held at Room 207 in the Health Systems Institute (HSI) Building, located at 828 West Peachtree Street, NW 2nd Floor Atlanta, GA 30332. Metered parking is available at the address.
Ms. West has participated in several optical system design, development, and evaluation projects in her career. She is author of a book chapter in Technology for Aging, Disability and Independence: Computer and Engineering for Design and Applications, to be published by John Wiley & Sons and has written a number of papers and given several presentations on assistive technology device development and remote sensing. She has licensed her invention of a wireless personal captioning system to industry for commercialization. Ms. West was recognized for her work when she was named one of Georgia's "40 Under 40" by Georgia Trend magazine in 2004, a listing of the 40 "Best and Brightest" influential Georgians in the business and political communities under 40 years old. Ms. West is an active participant at her organization, being an elected GTRI representative to the Georgia Tech Executive Board.
