"The Other Half" is regarded as one of the top 10 films of 2008. Directed by Ying Liang, it is described by Variety as "One hell of a beautiful film. Endlessly haunting with serene, even joyous consciousness that is the opposite of despair."

The film is free and open to the public.

The Independent Chinese Film Series is curated by Qi Lang, of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. Sponsors include the China Research Center, Georgia Tech, Emory University, Georgia State University, and Kennesaw State University.
