1. Dual Degree - Master of City and Regional Planning and Master of Architecture / Urban Design Concentration
The Dual Degree, resulting in the M.ARCH and MCRP Degrees, focusing on Urban Design has been an active program in the College of Architecture since 1969. Students can choose Urban Design as the dual degree concentration and fulfill the requirements of both degrees by completing the core courses in both fields and a set of urban design electives and requirements. One of the benefits of completing both degrees simultaneously is the savings in time, a minimum of one semester and sometimes a full year, depending on the individual's background and curriculum requirements. The Dual Degree with urban design concentration offers the potential for broadening future career choices in many roles in urban design, city planning, architecture and in both the public and private sectors.
2. Master of Science in Urban Design degree Program in Georgia Institute of Technology
The MSUD is a post-professional design studio-focused degree program for acquisition of the skills of a practicing urban designer. A prior professional degree is required in either Architecture (B.ARCH or M.ARCH), Landscape Architecture (BLA or MLA), City and Regional Planning (MCRP or equivalent) or Civil Engineering (BSCE). The ability to draw plans and places is necessary and assessed through portfolio submission. The MSUD is a twelve-month program with Fall and Spring semesters in Atlanta plus an international summer travel semester. The majority of graduates work in consulting firms on urban design projects around the world.
3. Georgia Tech – Tongji Exchange Program for degree: Shanghai 2013-2014
The College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University in Shanghai China invites graduate students from Georgia Tech to pursue a degree program there based on Georgia Tech – Tongji bilateral agreement. Georgia Tech students in the Master of City and Regional Planning Program can earn the Master of Urban Planning degree from Tongji, while Georgia Tech students in the Master of Architecture Program can earn the Master of Architecture degree from Tongji in a two-semester program of study. Both master degrees, in Urban Planning and Architecture, are accredited degrees in China. They have been viewed as the top ranked program in the region.
Participating students will be subject to Tongji admission procedures and academic regulation. Both degree programs require one calendar year and the completion of the master degree thesis at Tongji.
4. 2013 Summer China Urban Design Internship: Guangzhou
We are delighted to announce the fifth year of Guangdong Urban Rural Planning and Design Institute (GUPDI) Internship at Guangzhou China for the College of Architecture of Georgia Institute of Technology. Three summer internship positions in Guangzhou China are now open for application. The three-month contract will start from May to August 2013 for graduate students whose specialization or concentration are in the area of Urban Design from Georgia Tech’s School of City and Regional Planning and/or School of Architecture. This year, GUPDI would like to recruit two MCRP/MArch students focusing on urban design and one MArch student on architecture. Students will be part of a team of professional urban designers and planners to work on urban design projects in China. Each student will receive stipend $1,000 USD per month for over three months. The accommodation in Guangzhou will be provided. But students will need to pay for their own international travel expense and insurance.
