The Statutes Committee has proposed a new edition of the Faculty Handbook in a substantially revised format to the faculty of Georgia Tech for their consideration. Two town hall meetings have been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 23, and Thursday, Jan. 31, to discuss.

A few years ago, Senior Vice-Provost Andy Smith commissioned a Handbook Task Force to reconcile the Faculty Handbook with Board of Regents’ policy, federal and state regulations, and Institute policies. They also were asked to make the handbook more user-friendly and to reduce duplication, consolidate information, and ensure uniform language and organization. Their recommendations were then provided to the Statutes Committee who methodically examined the proposed changes for meaning and verified coverage from the existing Faculty Handbook to ensure that nothing was missing.

A website has been created for viewing the Draft 2013 Faculty Handbook. The site provides a comparison guide of the two handbooks, background information and the ability to provide feedback. The proposed 2013 Faculty Handbook may be compared with the January 2013 edition, which is currently the authoritative source of policies pertaining to the faculty.

A motion to accept this proposed 2013 edition of the Faculty Handbook will be presented for a first reading and vote at the Feb. 19, 2013 meeting of the General Faculty. The second reading and vote will be at the April 23, 2013 General Faculty meeting.
