With an investment that exceeds $5 billion dollars, the Panama Canal Expansion Project was launched in 2007 by the Panama Canal Authority (PCA) and it is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014, in time for the celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the inauguration of the original Canal back in 1914.

In his presentation titled “Panama Canal Expansion and Global Trade”, Dr. Dario Solis, Managing Director of the Georgia Tech Panama Logistics Innovation and Research Center, will talk about the Panama Canal expansion's impact on US shippers, how it will change transportation of inland waterways and what effects can the railroads expect.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Dario Solis is the Managing Director of the Georgia Tech Panama Logistics Innovation and Research Center. The main strategic objective of the Center is to support decisions that help improve Panama's country level logistics services performance, that will in turn aid in
developing logistics and trade capabilities that enable Panama as the Premier Trade and Logistics Hub of the Americas.

Dr. Solis’s research and development experience includes a strong component in Modeling and Simulation Science and Technology, Renewable Energy and Power Systems, Dynamics and Controls, Vehicle Dynamics and Traffic Simulation and Logistics and Supply Chain System Analysis. He is also a certified Lean Supply Chain Professional.
