C.F. Jeff Wu, the Coca-Cola Chair in Engineering Statistics and professor in the Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering, received the 2012 US Army Wilks Award during the 2012 Army Conference on Applied Statistics (ACAS) on October 24 in Monterey, CA, where he delivered the opening keynote speech titled, “Three-Phase Optimal Design of Sensitivity Experiments.”  The award is given periodically to a deserving individual who has made a “substantial contribution to statistical methodology and application impacting the practice of statistics in the Army through personal research in statistics or application of statistics in the solution of Army problems.”

ACAS is a forum for the presentation and discussion of theoretical and applied papers related to the use of probability and statistics in solving defense problems. The conference provides an opportunity for interaction among academic, industry, and defense scientists.

Wu also gave the W. J. Youden Memorial Address titled, “Quality Technology in the High Tech Age” at the 56th Annual Fall Technical Conference in St. Louis on October 4.  The conference, co-sponsored by the American Statistical Association and the American Society for Quality, is the premier forum to discuss topics at the interface of statistics and quality.
