As the year draws to a close, many of us may start thinking about our New Year’s resolutions.  For college students—especially those who haven’t done as well as they expected—such resolutions often include setting academic goals for the next semester. Students who are disappointed by their Fall grades may be especially motivated to make positive changes in the new year, but may not know how or where to start or worry that they won’t follow through with their well-intentioned plans. Concerned parents often call the Center for Academic Success looking for resources to help their students get off to a good start in the next semester.  The Center for Academic Success encourages students who are not meeting their academic expectations to consider joining Reboot, Tech’s academic recovery program.

Reboot is a free, voluntary, semester-long, non-credit program designed for first- and second-year students who are ready to focus on academic success.  Reboot meets once a week for a 50-minute session, which usually includes a discussion-based workshop or activity. Participants are required to log study hours, explore and use campus resources, and attend academic coaching sessions.  The program’s purpose is to help students define and achieve their own academic goals and to develop effective study skills at Georgia Tech.  Students in Reboot gain access to additional academic support services, including tutoring and individualized attention from Center for Academic Success staff members.

Freshmen and sophomores who have a cumulative GPA of 2.2 or lower, or are on academic probation will automatically receive an invitation to apply. Students who do not meet these criteria but feel they would benefit from the program may also apply and can be accommodated if space allows. More information and the online application are available on the Center for Academic Success webpage. Applications will open during the week of January 7th, and the first Reboot session will meet on January 17, 2013.
