We are assembling a special exhibition of design work by the alumni of the School of Industrial Design as part of a series of exhibits and events to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the original Architecture Building at Georgia Tech. The building was designed by P.M. Heffernan, of the firm Bush-Brown, Gailey and Heffernan, and the building opened in September of 1952. There was an exhibition held in connection with the opening entitled A Half Century of Architectural Education which displayed the built works from the first half of the 20th century contributed by the alumni of the College of Architecture. We are planning this special exhibition in the spirit of that presentation and are inviting you to submit the “best example” of your design work to a juried panel to be a part of the “The Past Sixty Years of Industrial Design at Georgia Tech” exhibition to be held January 24 through February 8, 2013 in the Stubbins Gallery in the College of Architecture.
We are asking that you submit an entry of the best example of your design work (product, system or service) by uploading images as a 600 dpi TIFF file of that "best design" by December 3, 2012. Of course, we are aware that you have more than one "best design" but we are asking that you select only one and that you submit it by December 3, 2012. Our jury will select sixty works to print and display in the 2013 exhibition but we will also be assembling an archival database to showcase works of our alumni.
To initiate this commemoration of the Architecture School building, the original exhibition A Half Century of Architectural Education is being reproduced and displayed in the Stubbins Gallery beginning November 8, 2012. The Schools of City Planning and Architecture will also be displaying design works of their alumni during February, March and April, 2013. In addition, there will be complementary events in the form of gallery talks and lectures in support of this important retrospective celebration. We will be contacting you with a more updated list of activities during the run of this exhibit of which we hope that you can be a part.
We look forward to hearing from you. Any questions you might have or for additional information, you can contact Mr. Troy Whyte via email and at 404-385-1275.
