Please join the Center for European and Transatlantic Studies (CETS) of the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, the German Consulate General, and the Goethe Zentrum (German Cultural Institute) in hosting the second of two lectures by Dr. Andrea Mehrländer.
Ever wonder what is was like to be a German living in the south during the American Civil War? Mehrländer has recently released two books on the subject and in her talk she’ll be introducing them as she discusses the lives of Germans in Charleston, Richmond, and New Orleans during the war – a truly unique topic!

Dr. Andrea Mehrländer is a native of Berlin and has been working as the Executive Director of Berlin’s Checkpoint Charlie Foundation since 2001. Dr. Mehrländer is specialized in 19th Century North-American History and has conducted her main research on Immigration History, the American Civil War and Slavery.
