Bogost on Gamification of the News

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Ian Bogost, professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, "sees potential for a genuinely valuable contribution to society in games, a potential which has yet to be fully realised, but as new social challenges emerge and traditional institutions falter in their struggle to keep pace with technological progress, the seeming inevitability of just about everyone eventually wanting to at least tentatively explore the practicality of game-inspired solutions is only likely to intensify the paradox of this arch gamification-sceptic’s contribution to a much more gamification-receptive world."
